The anti-choice chuckleheads in the do-nothing House of Representatives have begun attacking the HHS mandate on birth control. This means that before employers and insurance companies are even required to comply 100% with the requirements (full coverage of all FDA approved methods of birth control, no deductibles, no co-pays — none of these kick in until August), anti-choice Republicans are trying to kill the bill.
Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska, who has voted for such atrocious legislation as extending the Bush tax cuts and NOT repealing DADT, called the birth control mandate a “bailout for Planned Parenthood”. No, actually, it’s a bailout for my wallet. I bust my ass working a crappy day job making a hell of a lot less money than Jeff Fortenberry and paying a whole hell of a lot more in taxes (percentage wise) than Mitt Romney. And I’m fortunate enough to be a Maryland native, so I’ve been able to stay on my mom’s (shitty) health care despite being out of college.
But the health insurance that we pay upwards of $8k annually (for only two of the adults in the family) doesn’t pay a dime for birth control. So I’m faced with either using less reliable methods of birth control like condoms, using cheaper birth control pills that make me sick, or paying $1300 out of pocket for the IUD I desperately need.
On top of my insurance premiums.
Sign this petition to stand behind the HHS’s decision. Tell Reps. Jeff Fortenberry and Marco Rubio to create some damn jobs and stop attacking those who can least afford it. It’s time to stop bailing out billionaires and start taking care of our citizens’ health.
This is going to sound horrible…I don’t really want it to be because the issue of giving birth isn’t a light one. That being said, I wonder if we just started popping out 18 kids per woman (ala what’s her name from that one Quiverfull show), if maybe then we’d get somewhere. Because then Republican politicians might actually realize that if you don’t give women access to birth control, you get a lot of babies, which means a lot of people, which means overpopulation, which means national poverty and homelessness.
